AIRPORT COMMUNITY INFORMATION DAYS DEEMED A SUCCESS |  27/08/2010

Management at George Best Belfast City Airport has deemed its Community Information Days a success following the completion of two sessions which ended at midday today. The Community Information Days enabled local community groups the opportunity to discover more about the airport’s Community Fund and also question airport management on the runway extension and any other aspect of the airport’s operations. The two day event was widely publicised on TV, Radio, print and online media, with invites also issued to 21,000 households through the airport’s Community News letter.Despite only 42 people attending the two-day event, Ruth Kimbley, Communications Executive, deemed the event a success.“The vast majority of attendees were supportive of the runway extension and our operations, realising that the extension would mean no bigger planes, no change in the operating hours and no extra flights.“Whilst we realise noise is an issue for many residents, this is monitored closely and reported in a transparent manner. Many of the residents I spoke with were interested to learn the facts behind our operations.“The airport has close links to the community it serves and will always continue to operate an open door policy for residents to discuss their concerns.”
