    • BMIBABY FLIES HIGH WITH NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN SOCIAL MEDIA

      Belfast, Friday 3rd June 2011: Hot on the heels of the launch of the bmibaby blog, the low cost airline is the first European airline to embrace an ongoing social media loyalty scheme through location based network application, Gowalla.

       
      The Gowalla application http://gowalla.com/home allows users to virtually check in to locations as they travel to learn more about what is around them, from recommendations, to photo-sharing and networking with friends. Gowalla is great for keeping track of places you have visited as well as discovering the places you want to go next.

      This unique customer loyalty reward system will offer local customers the chance to be entered into monthly competitions each time they fly with the low cost airline.

      Customers will be encouraged to log their visits on Gowalla before and after all flights with bmibaby. bmibaby check in staff are also being briefed to help new Gowalla users take part in this exciting scheme.

      Once a check in is logged at one of bmibaby's arrival desks, the customer will be entered into a prize draw to win a pair of flights on the low cost carrier's network. Winners will be announced on a monthly basis, with the prize changing at regular intervals.

      Julian Carr, managing director, bmibaby, said: "We are pleased to introduce this customer reward scheme with Gowalla. This is a fun way to offer our customers something extra and of course say thank you for flying with us.

      "At bmibaby we are passionate about keeping our customers informed and recently launched our own blog http://blog.bmibaby.com where we can share all our news in one place. We are hoping that as well as being a communication channel, it will also be a place where our customers can engage in conversations with bmibaby too."

      In the near future bmibaby is looking to incorporate a Gowalla pin reward for the most loyal fliers whereby bronze, silver and gold pins will be rewarded to passengers who check in frequently. Each pin will unlock a new reward.

      bmibaby is also active on other social media platforms including Facebook and Twitter. Last month the airline challenged Travel Experts Alan Sampson and Bonnie Wintle, founders of top travel blog- Travel Titbits www.traveltitbits.co.uk to bring the best of Belfast to the online world. The explorers travelled to Northern Ireland with nothing but a smart-phone and spent a day as tourists, visiting quirky sights suggested by the public via the airline's Facebook and Twitter pages.
