Michelle Hatfield, Human Resources and Corporate Responsibility Director at Belfast City Airport, received the Young Director of the Year Award 2011 from the Institute of Directors (NI).
The Director of the Year Awards celebrate and reward the achievements of established and emerging leaders and directors.
Michelle has now been entered into the UK awards, held in London in late 2012, and will be nominated for the IoD Lunn's Award of Excellence which will be presented at the IoD Annual Lunch in February.
Receiving the award Michelle said:
“Talented Young Directors is not something Northern Ireland is short of at the moment, so to be considered and recognised amongst that category by such a prestigious body as the IoD is a real privilege.
“I’m looking forward to attending the national awards in London later this year.”
Laura Duggan, Environment Executive at the airport was named runner up in the IEMA Graduate Awards which recognise excellence throughout the UK.
Laura has played a pivotal role in developing and implementing the airport’s environmental systems and the judges were impressed with her innovative thinking, hard work, communication skills and professional leadership.
Laura was delighted to receive recognition from the IEMA:
“Since working at Belfast City Airport, we have worked really hard on making a difference in terms of the environment and sustainability.
“The hard work paid off and we achieved Green Dragon level 3 accreditation for the airport’s Environmental Management System in July 2010 and reaccreditation again in 2011.
“Having built up recycling and energy saving initiatives and teams among airport employees and our business partners, it’s very rewarding to see that everyone at the airport is taking environmental matters seriously.
