The East Belfast Arts Festival
, which will run from 5th -9th September 2012
, will showcase a wide range of cultural events, culminating in a concert by local legend Van Morrison
The five-day festival will feature both emerging and existing local talent in music, comedy, film, visual arts, theatre, literature and magic at a variety of venues across the city.
Chief Executive of Belfast City Airport, Brian Ambrose said:
“The airport has a strong relationship with the east Belfast community and is delighted to be sponsoring this exciting new arts festival.
“People in Northern Ireland have a great love for “Van the Man” so it will be wonderful to see Van Morrison come home to east Belfast as the headline act at the Big Top Festival on Saturday 8th September.”
The concert at Aircraft Park, opposite the airport terminal building, also features artists such as Shana Morrison, Brian Houston and Gareth Dunlop.
Other highlights of the packed programme include the largest curated outdoor art exhibition ever seen in Belfast, productions by local theatre companies, a zombie walk in the grounds
of Stormont Estate, and a tour focusing on the life of east Belfast’s most famous literary son, C.S Lewis.
Director of the Festival, Maurice Kinkead said:
“We are thrilled that Belfast City Airport has come on board to sponsor what promises to be a fantastic celebration for the people of Belfast.
“The Festival has something for everyone across a variety of venues over the five days.”
