    • FLYBE'S HAT-TRICK OF NEW UK ROUTES TAKE TO THE SKIES

      Thursday 28 Oct 2010

A hat-trick of new Flybe routes is set to take off from George Best Belfast City Airport this weekend, bringing the total number of routes offered by the airline from Belfast to 17.

The three new services to Bristol, East Midlands and Liverpool airports start on Sunday 31st October. The flights will operate four times a day to Liverpool and twice a day to both Bristol and East Midlands. Fares start at just £24.99 one way, including taxes and charges for each of the three new services.

Flybe announced its new routes, which will offer 100 additional flights a week from the City Airport, after Ryanair said it was pulling out of Belfast.

Flybe, the UK’s Number One Domestic Airline and the largest scheduled carrier at George Best Belfast City Airport, already directly employs 215 staff in Belfast and the three new routes will result in the creation of 250 new support jobs and two further aircraft based in Belfast.

Andrea Hayes, Flybe's General Manager Market Development, said: “We are delighted to be able to take over these three crucial routes. We recognise that for a country such as Northern Ireland which depends so much on air links for its economic, social and tourism wellbeing, that reliability and dependability are key factors towards growth and development.

“Flybe has been serving the community in Northern Ireland for over 26 years. We are wholly committed to continue providing comprehensive connectivity throughout the UK and beyond to convenient destinations at competitive prices with maximum flexibility and choice.”

Tourism Minister Arlene Foster has praised Flybe’s investment and long-term commitment to Northern Ireland.

She said: “The development of direct, convenient and competitive access services is critical to achieving tourism growth and strategic targets. Great Britain is a key source market for Northern Ireland tourism and Tourism Ireland has an exceptionally strong promotional programme under way this year, to restore tourism growth from this all-important market. Tourism Ireland will be working with Flybe in Great Britain to maximise the promotion of these new routes.”
