Flybe, the UK’s Number One Domestic airline and largest scheduled low cost airline out of George Best Belfast City Airport, has begun its annual month-long on-board collections to raise vital research funds for its chosen charity partner, Cancer Research UK.
Last year, generous passengers raised over £100 000 during the first-ever on-board collections during June that take place across Flybe’s extensive network and, on World Cancer Day in February, a further £5,500 was raised.

Flybe’s General Manager Market Development, Andrea Hayes, says: “Cancer is a disease that touches many of us in some way or another during our lives. The logistics in organising on-board collections on 13,242 flights for a whole month is a huge undertaking and we hope to beat last year’s impressive figures and raise a record amount for this very worthwhile cause.”

Cancer Research UK Area Volunteer Manager, Sarah Bougler adds: “Once again, we're delighted that Flybe is supporting Cancer Research UK with in-flight collections in June. Last year, the collections raised more than £100,000, with £20,000 collected on flights to or from Belfast alone. This is a fantastic achievement and is a great testament to the generosity of Flybe's Belfast passengers. Let's hope we can raise even more this year!”

Adds Ms Hayes: “Every penny, cent, euro or pound donated will help us support scientists across the UK, so rather than take all their loose change home with them, we hope passengers will drop it in the buckets on their way off the plane to help Cancer Research UK continue its life-saving work.”
