The Willowfield Parish Community Association took 70 young people and 20 leaders out of Belfast using £2,500 donated from the airport's community fund to the association which went towards ‘The Great Escape 2013’ in Coleraine.
Based at North Coast Integrated College for a week the youth group enjoyed a mix of activities from go-karting, coasteering to zombie games. Small group discussion and physical challenges allowed them to work on issues like self – esteem and personal achievement.
During the week the kids where given the tools to take reals steps in their future to avoid some of the anti-social behaviour and peer pressure they often face.
David Jardine, Youth Work Coordinator at Willowfield Parish Community Association, said: "The young people loved the week away and many of them said it was the best week of their life. Daily activities were based around issues such as confidence and identity and in these new experiences combined with the group work, they have came home with a new sense of confidence and self-awareness."
