    • RESIDENTS GROUPS INVITED TO JOIN BELFAST CITY AIRPORT COMMUNITY FORUM

      Monday 15 Feb 2010

Community representatives in south and east Belfast and North Down are being urged to make their voice heard on issues relating to George Best Belfast City Airport by applying to sit on the airport's community forum.

The Belfast City Airport Forum, which was established in 1993, is a consultative body whose members represent local communities, public authorities, airport management and airport users.

The committee is not a decision-making body but an organised forum to inform the diverse range of stakeholders about issues relating to the development and operations of the airport and the aviation industry, and to seek feedback.

The forum is currently inviting applications from residents organisations who wish to nominate a representative.

Chair of theGeorge Best Belfast City Airport Community Forum Alan Crowe said:

"The City Airport is aware of the impact its operations may have within the community and aims to address these issues through the forum.

"It's very important the vies of residents regarding the airport are heard and that information about the airport is fed back to the community.

"This is a valuable opportunity for those who represent their communities to come forward and join the forum."

The successful nominees will represent their community on matters relating to the airport, and must be able to attend at least three evening meetings a year at the airport.

Only members of organised groups, which have a constitution, elected officer bearers and hold regular meetings including an Annual General Meeting, are eligible to apply.  The group must have no political bias.

The forum is seeking three members from east Belfast, one from south Belfast and three from North Down.

Representatives must be over 18 and have lived in the area they wish to represent for at least 12 months.  They must be able to show that their group has the means to collect views, information and enquiries from members of the community in the catchment area and to report information back to the community from forum meetings, consultations and airport updates.

Representatives will serve a five year term.
