The restriction limits the number of seats which can be sold from Belfast City Airport to 2 million per year.

Following the announcement that the DOE Minister, Edwin Poots has placed the removal of the seats for sale restriction out to consultation to Belfast City Council, North Down Borough Council and the Belfast City Airport Forum, Brian Ambrose, CEO of the airport said:

"Our Seats for Sale restriction is a restriction based on the physical capacity of the old terminal building. As this building has now been demolished and we operate from a new modern terminal building, we are pleased that the department now recognise it has no relevance to the current operation."
