Over the years, George Best Belfast City Airport has sought to give more than a little back to the community by working with charity partners to deliver countless activities and raise money for Northern Irish charities.

Charity Partner 2015: NI Transplant Association

The Northern Ireland Transplant Association provides a service to all those going through the hardships of organ donation. By partnering with the charity, Belfast City Airport will be supporting numerous fundraising events throughout the year, with the hopes of raising crucial funds for the charity and promoting organ donation.

Here is a list of some of the other charities we have supported through time and details on the charity work we participated in:

Marie Curie Cancer Care

Marie Curie Cancer Care is one of the UK's largest charities. Established in 1948, the charity mainly cares for people with cancer and other life limiting illnesses. In 2006, Marie Curie became GBBCA's charity partner of the year. The airport took part in various fund raising activities which enabled them to hand over a cheque of £20,000 to Marie Curie Nurse of the Year, Imelda McGucken at the end of the year.

Cancer Fund for Children NI (NICFC)

Cancer Fund for Children (formerly) NICFC is a registered charity which offers practical, emotional and financial support to children and young people up to and including the age of 21, who are living with cancer, and their families.

Cancer Fund for Children became GBBCA's charity partner of the year in 2007.

The airport supported the Cancer Fund for Children's family programme, which costs around £105,000 annually and raised over £10,000 in 2007-2008 from a variety of events. That was then matched, bringing the total donation to £20,000.

George Best Belfast City Airport worked closely with Mencap, the leading UK charity for people with a learning disability and their families.

GBBCA's very own Paula McFarland competed in Mencap's Y Factor in January 2010 to help raise vital funds for the charity. Paula raised an amazing £1,300 for the charity with the help and support of her work colleagues, family and friends. Paula was successful in winning the top prize for being the best Y Factor fundraiser!

Concern Worldwide

George Best Belfast City Airport were proud to work along side Concern WorldWide, an Irish chairty working in third world countries.

Deirdre Murphy from Concern Worldwide came down to the airport to join our Admin team for their Charity morning held at the airport every other Friday throughout their time as our charity partner. Deidre was presented with a cheque for just over £2,000 which was raised from those charity mornings and various collections throughout the terminal.

Macmillan Cancer Support

Belfast City Airport got involved in an array of events for Macmillan Cancer Support throughout 2013 & 2014 and encouraged our staff and customers to get involved too, with the aim of raising vital funds for this worthy cause. All funds raised helped towards providing medical, financial, practical and emotional support for the 55,000 people in Northern Ireland living with cancer.
