Draft Noise Action Plan - Public Consultation
George Best Belfast City Airport (GBBCA) is consulting on its draft Noise Action Plan which is prepared pursuant to the European Parliament and Council Directive for the assessment and management of environmental noise 2002/49/EC known as the Environmental Noise Directive ('END') and the Environmental Noise Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2006 ('the 2006 Regulations')
The main objectives of END are:
- To determine the noise exposure of the population through noise mapping
- To make information on environmental noise available to the public
- To develop Action Plans based on the mapping results, to reduce noise levels where necessary, and to preserve environmental noise quality where it is good.
The purpose of the Action Plan is to describe how GBBCA as the designated Competent Authority proposes to manage noise arising from its aircraft operations within the Belfast Agglomeration in line with the requirements of END and the 2006 regulations.
In accordance with Article 8(7) of END, we are consulting with the public on this proposed draft Noise Action Plan which can be downloaded from the link below. Responses are invited by 9 August 2013.
We will also be consulting with our Airport Consultative Committee (the Forum) on this draft Noise Action Plan at its meeting on 26 June 2013.
At the end of the consultation period we will carefully consider all the comments received and amend the draft Noise Action Plan where appropriate. The draft Noise Action Plan will then be submitted to the Department of the Environment (‘the Department’) for approval and formal adoption by the Environment Minister for Northern Ireland.
