Nail Technician Students Have A Career At Their Fingertips Thanks To Community Fund

Date: 12 Nov 2019

Passengers and staff at George Best Belfast City Airport were given a special treat when students from Donegall Pass Community Forum set up a free nail bar in the airport terminal this week.

Thanks to funding from Belfast City Airport Community Fund 7 students have completed their VTCT level 2 Award in Nail Technology and volunteered to showcase their newly acquired talent in transforming talons.

Sandy Webb, Community Training and Education Coordinator of Donegall Pass Community Forum, said:

“Qualifications in Nail Treatments and Nail Technology are now becoming the industry required standard for those looking to gain employment within a salon or to set up their own nail business.

“This course has enabled a group of local women to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills that they need in order to provide nail treatments as a career.

“Many of the students on this course have young children and have struggled to find a balance between motherhood and having a career which offers them the flexibility to work around school holidays and the school day.

Sandy concluded;

“We are extremely grateful to Belfast City Airport for their funding – the skills which these students have now learnt will be truly life changing to them and their families and there are no limits to the success they can now all go on to achieve.

Paula Bittles of Belfast City Airport, said:

“Belfast City Airport is thrilled to have been able to support this fantastic project which has provided many of these ladies with the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge to start a career within the beauty industry.

“It is wonderful to experience first-hand the enthusiasm and passion that these ladies have and I wish them all the very best on their new career path.

“The work being carried out by Donegall Pass Community Forum is a superb example of how our Community Fund can be utilised to improve the lives of local families who need an opportunity to achieve their own ambitions.”
