What safeguards exist regarding aircraft noise?
All forecast growth to 2040 can be accommodated within our existing noise controls.
By incentivising the transition to cleaner, quieter, more fuel-efficient aircraft, we can meet the forecast growth in demand to 2040 and extend the operating hours whilst staying within the noise contour area limits as set by the current Planning Agreement with DfI.
In addition, we are developing a number of noise control and operational measures, including:
-
Incentivisation of quieter aircraft
We will incentivise the use of new generation aircraft through a series of new measures
-
A new Noise Insulation Scheme (NIS)
We will protect those nearest to the airport with a new Noise Insulation Scheme that goes beyond the requirements of current UK Government noise policy and reflects best practice at UK airports
-
Controls on aircraft at night
We are developing a package of controls to mitigate and minimise the impact of aircraft noise at night, including delayed aircraft
