Meet the Makers

Behind every great spirit is a story.

This year's That's the Spirit week brings together four Northern Ireland distilleries, each with its own unique heritage, approach and flavour profile.

Basalt Distillery

Basalt Distillery

Located on Northern Ireland’s north coast, just a stone’s throw from the Giant’s Causeway, Basalt Distillery creates premium spirits inspired by the unique history of the region. Its flagship Basalt Volcanic Rock Gin is made using water drawn from a 600ft borehole, naturally filtered through 60-million-year-old basalt rock. Combining ancient geology with modern distilling technology, Basalt creates spirits with a distinctive sense of place, exceptional clarity and complex flavour.

Jawbox Gin

Jawbox Gin

Born in Belfast, Jawbox is a classic dry gin made in a traditional distillery just outside the city. Its small-batch gin is triple-distilled using locally grown grain and a carefully selected combination of botanicals, including Belfast Black Mountain heather. Taking its name from the familiar Belfast kitchen sink, Jawbox celebrates its local roots while creating a modern Northern Irish gin enjoyed around the world.
