Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund plants the seeds for new garden project at Braniel Primary School

Date: 05 Mar 2026

Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund has provided vital support to Braniel Primary School, facilitating a new garden initiative that will transform an unused area into a vibrant learning space.

The initiative will benefit over 350 children and staff, promoting environmental education through hands-on gardening activities and helping pupils develop practical skills, build confidence, and encourage a lasting appreciation for the outdoors and sustainability.

George Bee, Community Fund Ambassador for Belfast City Airport, said:

“At Belfast City Airport, we are committed to being a good neighbour and delivering lasting and meaningful support that meets the needs of our local community.

“Braniel Primary School has been able to transform its outdoor space into a garden where pupils can learn, discover, and grow together.

“We are proud to have played a role in bringing this project to life, demonstrating how we can create greener, stronger, and more connected communities.”

Since its inception in 2009, Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund has donated just under £750,000 to 248 local projects, supporting initiatives that nurture community wellbeing, promote inclusion, and deliver lasting impact across Greater Belfast and North Down.

Donna Livingstone, Primary two teacher at Braniel Primary School, said:

“This project gives every pupil the opportunity to take part in hands-on gardening, understand the importance of caring for the environment, and experience the pride that comes from seeing their hard work flourish.

“It has been amazing to watch the children’s confidence and curiosity grow as they care for the garden and learn about the world around them.

“The support from Belfast City Airport has not only provided the tools and resources we need but has also strengthened our school community. We are very grateful to Belfast City Airport’s Community Fund for helping make this possible.”
