Belfast City Airport has achieved a ‘Very Good’ accessibility rating, the highest accolade available, for the ninth consecutive year. The Airport Accessibility Performance Report, which is published annually by the Civil Aviation Authority, assesses the performance of UK airports in providing assistance services to disabled and less mobile passengers.
This includes waiting times for arriving and departing passengers, the quality of the service provided, and the effectiveness of engagement with disability stakeholders.
Philip Boyle, Terminal and Security Operations Manager at Belfast City Airport, said:
“Achieving a ‘Very Good’ accessibility rating once again is a significant accomplishment and reflects our commitment to ensuring every passenger has a safe, accessible and positive journey through Belfast City Airport.
“This recognition is a testament to the dedication of our team, which delivers the highest standards of assistance and support for those who need it.”
Throughout the reporting period, Belfast City Airport introduced ‘Lived Experience’ training in partnership with Queen’s University Belfast, helping staff to better understand passengers with accessibility needs.
It also expanded its provision of Blue Badge parking spaces, with options available across all of its onsite car parks.
This builds on the airport’s existing accessibility initiatives, which includes Autism in the Air – a unique familiarisation programme designed to support children with autism and their families.
Nikki Stewart, Station Manager for CCS Airport Services, Belfast City Airport’s PRM provider, added:
“This achievement reflects the collaborative approach taken across Belfast City Airport and CCS Airport Services to continually enhance the experience for passengers who require assistance.
“By listening to these passengers and investing in training, we can continue to provide a service that is responsive, inclusive and tailored to individual needs.”
