Belfast City Airport is now accepting applications for the seventh year of its IGNITE Youth Leadership Programme.
Open to students aged 16 to 18 from across Northern Ireland, the initiative is designed to build confidence and unlock potential by providing young people with the skills and experience needed to shape their future.
First introduced in 2019, the programme has already surpassed its original ambition of supporting 100 students, successfully engaging more than 120 young people to date.
The programme continues to grow in popularity, with a record 34 students taking part in 2025/2026’s class, a reflection of its strong reputation and impact across the region.
Speaking at the launch, Michelle Hatfield, Chief People and Marketing Officer at Belfast City Airport, said:
“Since launching IGNITE in 2019, we have seen first-hand the positive impact it can have on young people across Northern Ireland. The programme has supported hundreds of students to build confidence, develop essential skills, and gain a clearer sense of their future career paths.
“At Belfast City Airport, we are committed to creating meaningful opportunities for young people from all backgrounds. IGNITE is designed to equip participants with the tools they need to succeed, while also providing valuable insight through learning alongside professionals from a range of industries.
“The continued demand of the programme has enabled us to launch its seventh year, and we look forward to seeing how the next group of participants grow in confidence, develop as leaders, and make the most of every opportunity available to them.”
Throughout the ten-month programme, participants will work towards an NLP Diploma in Personal and Career Development, further enhancing their personal and professional growth.
Through a hands-on approach, participants are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones, develop leadership capabilities, and build lasting connections with peers and industry professionals.
Akshara Rakesh, a current participant on the programme, said:
“IGNITE has helped me recognise the qualities and skills I need to build a successful future. Learning from professionals across a range of industries has shown me just how transferable those skills can be, and it has given me greater confidence in my own potential.
“I would wholeheartedly recommend the IGNITE Youth Leadership Programme to anyone considering applying.”
Andrew Gemmell, also a current participant, added:
“One of the most valuable parts of IGNITE has been the friendships and connections formed along the way, which have really enhanced the overall experience.
“The programme has also given me new perspectives on my future and helped me started shaping a clearer career path.”
