The achievements of five apprentices from Belfast City Airport’s High Flyers Apprenticeship Programme have been recognised at an official passing out ceremony.
The apprentices showcased their newfound skills to friends and family at Belfast City Airport, including a live drill where they tackled a controlled fire.
Daniel Burke, Liam Cunning, Daniel Fusco, Ethan McKee and Paul McNally joined the programme in 2025, undertaking rigorous training combining academic study with practical, hands-on experience.
Aileen O’Kane, Head of People and Purpose at Belfast City Airport, commented:
“All five apprentices have all shown exceptional commitment, professionalism and teamwork throughout their training, and we are incredibly proud to celebrate their achievements at today’s passing out ceremony.
“The High Flyers Apprenticeship Programme plays an important role in developing future talent at Belfast City Airport and creating meaningful long-term career opportunities for people across Northern Ireland.
“We remain committed to investing in skills development and supporting emerging professionals as they build rewarding careers within the aviation industry.”
Since launching, the programme has maintained a 100% success rate of apprentices progressing into full-time permanent roles within the airport.
Due to its continued growth, last year the programme expanded to include an IT Engineer apprenticeship for the first time.
High Flyers Apprentice, Liam Cunning, said:
“Standing alongside the rest of the group at the passing out ceremony was a fantastic moment and a real reflection of all the hard work that went into the programme. From day one, we were challenged to push ourselves, build confidence and develop the skills needed to work in such an important operational role.”
Daniel Fusco added:
“Participating in the High Flyers Apprenticeship Programme is something I’m really proud of. The experience, support and opportunities throughout the programme have been incredible, and celebrating alongside the rest of the group at the passing out ceremony made the achievement even more special.”
Daniel Burke, commented:
“One of the best parts of the High Flyers Apprenticeship Programme was getting hands-on experience in a live airport environment and learning directly from experienced colleagues across the business. Every day brought something different, which helped build both our skills and understanding of the industry.”
Belfast City Airport continues to invest in skills development, innovation and future talent across all areas of the business, with the High Flyers Apprenticeship Programme remaining a key part of its long-term vision.
